Listen | Pattern is Movement : “Untitled (How Does It Feel?)” (D’Angelo cover)

Pattern is Movement

It’s covering season, ladies and gents. Whether it’s Franz Ferdinand covering Grimes’ “Oblivion” or High High’s take on College’s “A Real Hero”, a bunch of bands/artists have been putting their own spin on others’ songs a lot more as of late and Philly experimental pop duo Pattern is Movement is no exception.

Though they’ve been playing their version of D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel?) live for pretty much years now, with a new album just on the horizon, the twosome thought it was about time to put a real version out into the world. They recorded a studio version of the track and are releasing it, as well as single from their upcoming full length, on a 12″.

What sets Pattern is Movement apart from the multitude of indie bands currently making their love of R&B known either in side projects, covers, or straight up full fledged bands devoted to just that really has everything to do with their delivery. For the most part a faithful cover, Andrew Thiboldeaux is surprisingly perfect to tackle D’Angelo’s sexy jam. Chris Ward lays down some sultry drum action and the whole track just sizzles with slow burning intensity. Sure it’s mostly of D’Angelo’s creation but Pattern is Movement do a damn fine job of paying proper tribute.

The “Suckling” 12″ single with B-side featuring “Untitled (How Does It Feel?)” is now available for preorder on Hometapes »
