Hypeworthy | holychild: “Happy With Me” (MP3 Premiere)

Holychild band music

You might think that flossing your ears with a Nerds rope would be uncomfortable, and you might be right, but what about when it sounds so good? That’s the feeling I get when listening to new LA outfit holychild. It’s like Sleigh Bells traded in their Tuco tendencies for snorting lines of Pixy Stix and taking their sugar highs out on a plethora of synthesizers. The duo, originally from our nation’s capital, have an EP prepped for mass consumption with satiable synths, alluring melodies, and a light-hearted aura with loads of crossover appeal.

“Happy With Me” is the lead single of an EP that will likely never see the light of day before a label snatches these guys up. It kicks off with multi-tracked vocals that are fit for a Dirty Projectors chorus before dipping into a Calexico-meets-Caribbean beat that drives the song forward. What gets me excited about the future of this band are two things: this isn’t the best track on their EP and they’re one focused session with a prime producer away between bridging the gap between Santigold and CHVRCHES. That’s middle ground I want to hear. See these kiddos in small clubs and at CMJ while you can.
