Listen | Jamies Bea: “Dreams”

jamies bea

I’m slightly hesitant to post the following song from London producer Jamies Bea, not just because it sounds almost exactly like a Jai Paul demo (down to the samples and singing voice) but also because his Soundcloud tags and press copy literally reference Jai Paul twice… But I figured it’s a slow morning and this is a topic ripe for plundering. But first, “Dreams” »

I suppose a good song is a good song, regardless of any similarities to former or current artists. And if this was a Jai Paul track, or if this existed without Jai Paul having ever poked his brown head into the viral realm of pop culture, I would dig it all the same. It’s wonderfully abrasive, head-spinningly melodic and danceably rhythmic — three necessities for losing oneself in such roughly recorded, lo-fi demos. But then again, it would almost certainly not exist in the same capacity without Jai Paul, and there’s something that irks me about that, reasonably or not.

We’ll keep tabs on the Jamies Bea train and see where it ends up. For now, check out his Soundcloud page for more »
