There is so much music, so many MySpaces and Band Camps there could be a sonic village the size of Hong Kong with no methodical way to sift through it. Despite the sheer size, finding something truly ear refreshing is a task that becomes harder with each passing day. However, when something so refreshing comes along and smacks you in the face like a pillow made out of water.. your ears tend to perk up like a paranoid rabbit.
Even though IGIF is putting the finishing touches on our “best lists” of 2010, I can excitedly look forward to 2011 and tell you this band – Dreamers of the Ghetto – is destined to breakout. This new outfit, originally from Nashville but currently residing in Bloomington, Indiana, are a self-professed family band consisting of two brothers and one of their wives. I have a few friends at Indiana University who tell me their live show is insane, with a flare for the dramatic (photographic evidence). Check out the premiere of “Phone Call” below:
[MP3] Dreamers of the Ghetto – Phone Call
This song grows on me more and more with each listen, it’s a slow burning jam with clairvoyant keys, subtle vocal harmonies, and well-timed percussion. Although “Phone Call” and the other tracks I’ve heard are essentially glorified demos, you don’t need a Fantasia-esque imagination to see the potential lurking in the shadows. I’m keeping a close eye and ear on Dreamers of the Ghetto these next few months. Check out a bunch of recently uploaded demos on their MySpace and the seizure-inducing video for first single “Tether” after the jump!
