Before becoming entrenched in the thick of The Antlers, multi-instrumentalist Darby Cicci offered up his own solo record by the name of Minus Green. A collection of mid-tempo rock jams with folky tendencies, his latest solo venture under the moniker School of Night is essentially nothing of that sort.
Written, recorded, and produced during Cicci’s breaks from the Antlers with no initial intent to be released, School of Night is good old fashioned synth pop with a twist. Enriched by Cicci’s emotive tenor, “Lying” employs an Antlers-esque sprawl while remaining pretty distinctively his own. While stitched together from a tapestry of collected sounds and cooed vocal riffs, Cicci’s stratospheric vocals are the absolute focus; pristine and plaintive, creating an ear-catching downtempo rouser from heart-fluttering raw emotiveness alone.
Cicci’s debut EP as School of Night will be out October 15th through his own Minus Green Music »
