It’s been awhile since I’ve heard from Houtakker, artist behind the deceivingly delicious track “Judy, Judy” – if you didn’t hear that track, you should probably get on it. Houtakker is back with a mixed bag of new and old tunes, one of which I’ve not been able to shake from my ears the past week. “The Spirit of Invention” is a beautiful track, as slow moving as it is haunting. It’s got a vibe that reminds of charming Band of Horses (when they were good) and the bedroom pleasantries of Chad VanGaalen. Definitely a departure from the sound he demonstrated with “Judy Judy” but it’s refreshing to know Houtakker’s range can be limitless.
