You’ve probably heard about Alt-J by now but I’m on a bender of their upcoming LP An Awesome Wav, even though I’ve been listening to it in MP3. Corny jokes aside, these British dudes can craft some smoothly eerie tunes that bend toward an atmospheric Radiohead with epic fusions of R&B rhythm and billowing balladry. Lead singer Joe Newman has an annunciation that reminds me of a schizophrenic Sean Hayes (listen here, then decide) that is smooth yet unpredictable. Their debut LP is very solid and I can’t wait to share more with you ASAP. Until then, check out this video for “Tesselate” that’s an urban twist on Raphael’s “School of Athens” masterpiece.

Fricking awesome. So glad you put me on to these guys a few post ago.
I have never heard of this band before, but I totally dig their sound. I like the sound of Joe Newman’s voice. Its complex, unique sound complements the music well. The fast forward and slow down thing this video has going on is pretty cool. Who knew that filming one room of people could be so entertaining? Thanks for turning me on to them!
