We first caught up with 80s mishmash experimental dance producer Dreams when he released his Feelings 4 U EP last year through our friends at Absent Fever, and now he’s back with another new EP, this time from 6bit Music. Flyte is the curiously uplifting name which is then soulcrushed by lead single “Bloodsport” »

Older tracks like “4Runner” used sexy 80s – 90s R&B vocal samples to construct Misshapes bangers that practically anyone could groove to, and that’s what I’d come to expect from Dreams… but “Bloodsport” (as if the title doesn’t raise ‘brows) is a different beast entirely. Sounding more like the Flying Lotus influenced “future r&b” of guys like Supreme Cuts and THE-DRUM, it has a stark, darker, deeper feel. It’s a soundtrack for the night terrors of the rave world: loud, obnoxious, spontaneous and gut rattling. It’s easily the most progressive track on FLYTE, and coming in as the penultimate track gives the whole EP a really bizarre, otherworldly vibe.
