We told you about Ireland’s organic+electro maestro Ruairi Lynch a.k.a. Bantum back in April when his last EP Slide had just landed. It reminded me a bit of Ratatat in their primitive days to naturally I had a tracker out on Bantum to see what the future holds… and now we’ve got the future, or his future, now his present, in the brand new and still very free Lay Lay EP.
This time Lynch has some help from vocalists Margie Lewis and Michael Owens, the latter who shines on the EP’s final track “New String”. Lynch almost channels Four Tet over Ratatat here, with the track’s opening electronic flutters chopped and screwed and plugged-in the way so many of the songs were on Rounds. The comparisons aren’t meant to cheapen Bantum or easily explain his songs or influences, for which I’m sure there are many. It’s clear he’s expanding his sound and style and honing his skills in preparation for a debut LP which will *hopefully* be out sometime next year.

Oh, I love this track. And I’ve always loved Tchaikovsky’s _Waltz of the Flowers_ which I think was sampled here. Can anyone confirm?
