It’s a rainy Tuesday morning in New York City and the grogginess of an extra long weekend is making the short work week seem longer than usual. Summer is officially over and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a brand new Young Man track titled “Tired Eyes” – beyond fitting for this morning.
One of my favorite jams from forthcoming LP Ideas of Distance, “Tired Eyes” builds slowly with delicate guitar picking and multi-tracked harmonies that remind me of the vocal techniques Elliott Smith utilized so well throughout his (too short) career. The song shifts into a more than memorable melody at the 2:15 mark, bending in so many different ways with various guitars in use it doesn’t take much concentration to discover the true power of well orchestrated organic music. Ideas of Distance drops later this month via Frenchkiss, snag a copy.
