Got a delightful surprise from my homeland this morning by way of Kentucky musician Matt Duncan, a super talented dude I highlighted in 2010. Duncan’s doo-wop, throwback style of pop is as refreshing as it is upbeat. Driven by wobbly bass lines, a solid brass section, and harmonies fit for some boys from the beach – “Summer Song” is exactly that, a great summer jam.
Matt, being friends with and living in the same city as Small Plates’ own Idiot Glee, also made a cover of his song “I Want The Night To Stay” off of Idiot Glee’s debut LP Paddywhack (watch the original). Check it, snag some sexy white vinyl, and stay tuned for some more KY musics.
