Portland’s Pure Bathing Culture are a duo I’m very pleased to have randomly stumbled upon during countless hours spent sitting at a desk all day, searching for new jams. There hasn’t been much said about the group, they’ve gone relatively unnoticed because they only started a Bandcamp to share their songs with friends. Well, I’m glad to be their new best friend because said “new jams” contain lush harmonies and melodies impossible to shake. Check out “Ivory Coast”:
It turns out the duo making up Pure Bathing Culture are also members of Sub Pop’s Vetiver, yet they don’t resonate with my eardrums as well as the sweet, beachy vibes of PBC. It’s a delicate mix that conjures up feelings of Magnetic Fields mixed with the melodious tunes Beach House create, minus the moody hangover each provokes.
There’s nothing side project about this group, they’re hard at work recording a debut release that’s sure to spread as steady as the waves on a shoreline. Caught somewhere between the soft keys of 80s babies and hushed harmonies of the late 60s, I’m stoked to see what they’ve got in store next. Listen to another smooth adult jam, “Silver Shore’s Lake” right here.
