[MP3] new The Antlers: “Putting The Dog To Sleep”

The Antlers band [MP3] new The Antlers: Putting The Dog To Sleep

I’m heading out of town for the weekend tomorrow but would be mad at myself if I didn’t share a track that’s been haunting me all week long. The Antlers are a band I enjoy, but don’t absolutely adore. I liked bits and pieces of their first album, Hospice, but couldn’t get myself over the proverbial hump into “omgz this is sooo good” earspace. I got my hands on the group’s latest album Burst Apart the other week and didn’t make it a priority listen until early this week. I’m loving it so far, it’s a solid sophomore album and stronger than their debut. Growth? Development? Improvement? Three words that all mean the same thing but sound more dramatic said separately? Check, check, check, and an exclamatory check.

[MP3] The AntlersPutting The Dog To Sleep

There are many great tracks on Burst Apart but “Putting The Dog Asleep”, the album’s closing track, really grabbed me. I’ve been playing it nonstop, produced incredibly well with enough sad notes to linger in the dark recesses of your mind but using a retro, subtle enough rhythm to totally tetter-totter your mood swings. This album is becoming harder and harder to put down, a perfect blend of moody and melodic featuring some of the best production I’ve heard all year. Buy it and see them on tour, worth every nickel.

This is actually their fourth record, rather than their second.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been listening to this album repeatedly the last couple weeks.

Could you plzzz cover more stuff like this (or reference me to a blog that does?). Seems like all anyone likes these days is elctro-washed-out stuff that I personally can’t stand.
