Introducing LEAGUE — a London based duo, one former architecture student and another who dabbled in journalism at some point (that’s what I tell my grandmother), who dropped out of school to be beach hippies. They lived in a tent, swam all day long, and occasionally dipped into deep, abstruse patterns of thought that almost always led to them comparing grains of sand to humans, with their intricacies, diverse moldings and fleshy hues. They took these two colliding worlds of college student and beach hippie and in the subsequent juxtaposition created a band called “LEAGUE” and wrote a few songs…

While some cringed at the lack of a “Kids” or “Time To Pretend” on MGMT’s 2010 album Congratulations, I tended to embrace the stylistic changes and experimentalism that aligned them more with David Bowie. You’ll hear the same leanings on “Two Wild Hearts”, albeit a bit more catchy and straightforward perhaps. It billows with candy coated synths and fuzzy vocal melodies, and contains more than a handful of references to the duo’s watery past. This won’t be for everyone (especially those who visit IGIF for our more experimental suggestions) but for those who dig it, good luck avoiding the “repeat” button.
