[MP3] Mount Pleasant: “Florida”

mount pleasant [MP3] Mount Pleasant: Florida

Ok maybe chillwave isn’t totally dead or dying. As long as dudes like Toro Y Moi and newcomer Mount Pleasant have anything to say about it, it’s only just begun. What we can be sure of, though, is gone are the days of chillwave solely as 80s disco pop throwback. That was inevitably too lazy, both in the style and the sample abuse, and its welcome wore out quickly. What we’ve got now is endlessly more interesting, a continuation of Neon Indian’s original defining approach: chillwave created from layers and layers of music and sound sources, not some quick cut-and-paste pastiche of italian disco and garageband haze. We’re starting to hear and love this new elemental approach to downbeat lo-fi electro pop, and one of my favorite new examples is Mount Pleasant’s new single “Florida” »

There’s a massive wealth of material freely available at Mount Pleasant’s blog, including the latest LP The Cold War.
