Thursdays and Covers (Yellow Ostrich Edition)

One more day until the weekend that will officially close out the first full week of 2011, and it’s been a rather musically satisfying first week of the year! This time last year I had nothing but Beach House and Yeasayer endlessly spinning throughout January, so it’s only fitting they get some cover respect a year later. Today I am going to feature three covers from the super talented and ambitious Alex Schaaf, who creates music under the pseudonym Yellow Ostrich. The hypeworthy act released one of IGIF’s favorite albums last year and I can’t imagine that streak not continuing through 2011. Below you can spin an absolutely haunting cover of Sharon Van Etten’s “Love More”, Beach House’s “Zebra”, and Yeasayer’s “Tightrope” – my favorite track of 2009.
