The last time we caught up with Tennis, they premiered a brand new song via an acoustic video session with The Wild Honeypie. In between charming acoustic renditions and prepping their debut LP, we were slated to have them play our CMJ Floating Fest but they backed out to finish recording their full length Cape Dory. At the time I was disappointed and muttering jumbled curse words like Joe Pesci in Home Alone, but in hindsight I’m glad they finished the task at hand to deliver the most charming album of young 2011 thus far.

Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore are the duo behind Tennis, a band that came into existence after meeting in a collegiate philosophy class, experiencing mutual butterflies in their stomachs, and then (logically) deciding it was time to sell all they own to purchase a sailboat and explore distant places with barren coastlines. Not only is this cute story a nautical version of Romeo & Juliet, the duo channeled their love for the open sea and music into one adorable package. A charming backstory with equally charming tunes, like new track “Seafarer” that has as many uplifting melodies and movements as there are whitecaps on the high sea.

Cape Dory releases in two weeks via Fat Possum and the vinyl costs the same as the CD – pick up the plate!
