[MP3] Boy & Bear: “Blood to Gold” & “Rabbit Song”

boy and bear [MP3] Boy & Bear: “Blood to Gold” & “Rabbit Song”

If America is the melting pot for anyone who wants “to make it”, I often wonder what type of jumbled up cauldron of talents are swirling and stewing ’round the rest of the world. I’m never amazed at the amount of ridiculous talent hiding out in other countries, crafting music so beautiful it’s criminal some never catch the jet streams into accessible American airwaves. Australian outfit Boy & Bear have made quite a name for themselves in Oz and it’s only a matter of time before they skip across the Pacific Ocean to make a name for themselves with an entirely new audience.

I just love me some Aussie folk musings, from Hypeworthy alums The Middle East to the charming Angus Stone solo project Lady of the Sunshine. You can add Boy & Bear to the list, crafting melodic tunes with obvious influences from Fleet Foxes and vocal similarities to the croon of Rufus Wainwright.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of success they’ll have stateside as I’m sure many musical purists will lift their head thinking, “Is Robin Pecknold’s twin brother living down under?” It’s not a bad thing to sound like Foxes in Fiction and it shouldn’t stop anyone from enjoying their music, as they craft some really terrific tunes. Boy & Bear’s debut EP With Emperor Antarctica contains five solid tracks, “Blood to Gold” and “Rabbit Song” standing out as my favorites.

Are you saying that all talented people should undoubtedly come to US and become immediately successful?

Try Boy & the Echo Choir. Great band. Not from the US. ;)

Wanted to just thank you for the great introduction to Boy & Bear. While the similarities between the band and the fleet foxes is obvious, they are certainly a band worth listening to!
Thanks again.
