Our friends at Father Daughter Records just gave us some great news about their next release… finally someone signed the incredibly talented Levek (a dude we’ve been pretty shamelessly raving about for a while). Those bastards at FD beat Small Plates to the punch *tear*sniff*tear*. Not only do they have Levek’s debut EP on the horizon but they’ve singlehandedly launched his vinyl presence with the Levek 7″, featuring two brand new tracks… one of those is “Look on the Bright Side”, which you can listen to here:

We’ve always wondered what David Levesque would sound like with a proper recording studio, and although I don’t think “Look on the Bright Side” was recorded there (it sounds like he’s hitting the space bar on his laptop at the end of the track), it’s one of his most diverse and ambitious tracks to date. The song overflows with violins, overdubbed vocal harmonies, and flanged bass grooves that sound like the backing soundtrack to a Shaft strut in the best way possible. Like Shaft just got laid, bitchslapped an out-of-line pimp, and killed seven pool-cue-wielding henchmen with his pinky finger all without a single wrinkle in his custom fitted suit… and now he’s just walking the beat, grooving to the aura of his badassness that explodes with every step.

The b-side to “Look on the Bright Side” is about as opposing as a b-side can get, a lovely little sleeper that you must hear asap… which you can only do if you preorder the vinyl. 400 copies pressed on red vinyl, get on it!
