[mpFree] NYC UFOs’ Newer Stations

nycufos [mpFree] NYC UFOs Newer Stations

NYC UFOs is, in fact, a band from Northampton, MA and they owe just about all of their sound to The Strokes. But unlike Best Coast, who also owes almost all of her sound to the Strokes, NYC UFOs don’t try to pretend they don’t by hiding behind awful sound production and really lame lyrics. It’s pretty obvious, but as anyone who’s ever listened to The Strokes will tell you, does anything really matter when the output is this good?

I could have gone and freaked out about this band and ignored the connection, although obvious, but I’m having an off day, I suppose. Perhaps I shouldn’t have written anything. In the spirit of off days and missed opportunities and the early days of the latter part of the rehashed rebirth of rock n’ roll…. here’s a band whose music you’ll all like but who probably sound too much like the Strokes to ever get serious attention from Pitchfork… and it really really sucks that one website has that much power in a supposedly independent system comprised of many unique voices worth hearing:

Download an entire LP’s worth of this awesome music here. Apologies to the band for not giving them a just review.

“There’s Goes My Ego” pseudo-samples some “doo doo doo” part that I can’t place and it’s been driving me crazy. Anyone know what it is? It’s also the basic guitar riff for the song.
