When the flashy crystal ball drops every New Year’s in Times Square, the last thing on my mind are all the terrific albums released over the past year. In fact, my thought process most likely contains “woo”, champagne, kisses, and slurred speech. However, when immortal Dick Clark spends the final minutes of the year on my television and Times Square looks like a Lady Gaga concert with more confetti and less eye shadow, I’m going to fondly think about all of the excellent albums 2010 brought forth.
It’s been years since I’ve heard so many records impossible to stop playing after initial listens, many of those demanding repeat plays have been emerging artists too. If you want another album to add to your already overflowing year-end list, look no further than Glasser. The solo musings of Los Angeles native Cameron Mesirow, her debut LP Ring is irrefutably infectious and will find a comfortable home in your ears, iPods, record players, and car stereos.
[MP3] Glasser – Plane Temp
By now you’ve hopefully heard of Glasser and maybe her single “Home”, if not then you’re in for a treat. Her debut LP has an undeniable charisma and a feeling that every sound is folded together so easily like velvet origami. If Annie Clark and Natasha Kahn got into a cat fight (NSFW plz), Glasser would probably be the sound left standing after the brawl; the dark moods of St. Vincent mixed with the powerful vocals of Bat For Lashes. “Plane Temp” grabs my attention every time, a fluid track that showcases sparse instrumentation strengthened with near tribal vocal melodies.
Ring drops tomorrow via terrific label True Panther Sounds. I’d pre-order the LP now and get a limited edition clear vinyl!
