I’ve been downright obsessed with Shuffler.fm, a new music blog aggregate of sorts that shuffles (duh) through MP3s on music blogs randomly based on pre-set genre tags from Last.fm. Yesterday it lead me to this post on Fresh Born Gold featuring the follow song. If you haven’t heard Grouplove yet, it might be best to pretend you were quite randomly shuffled in its direction as I was:
[MP3] Grouplove – Colours
I can’t quite explain what it is that grabs me about this song. The singer’s use of repetition is really creative, the song explodes with the percussion and bombast from a million Arcade Fire songs, and it reminds me of what discovering music was like in pre-chillwave 2006. Unless you can’t stand his voice (a touch less annoying than the Windmill dude), there’s nothing not to like about this song. Also, when you discover that the band (actually five members) all met randomly in Crete and then decided to record an album together in L.A., well, it’s pretty damn hard not to find that endearing.
“Colours” is the opening track on the band’s self-titled debut EP, which you can buy here for $6.

I’ve been listening to these folks for the last few weeks and can’t get enough. Nice site re-design by the way!
I’ve been all over shufflerfm too. It’s cool how you can listen to so much music, but also get the blogs and posts underneath the music bar. I heartily approve. I like the changes you made to your blog BTW.
Great great band! thanks for the introduction
Been lovin’ on Shuffler.fm myself. Cool way to browse…
And now you have a commenter who found the blog via Shuffler. Which means that what, 10 million lurkers have gotten here the same way, right? Or something.
Seriously, though, I’m really liking Shuffler. The channels are a little fuzzy around the edges (OK, a lot fuzzy; any time the rock channel has techno and bluegrassy folk, that’s pretty darned fuzzy), but I’m pretty eclectic when it comes to music. Besides, if you’re listening for discovery, why be too strict about genres?
Anyway, I’m going to poke around the site now. Who knows, you may have gotten a regular out of this.
