[Hypeworthy] Guards’ S/T debut EP (Update)

guards [Hypeworthy] Guards’ S/T debut EP (Update)

Update: The GUARDS EP has been re-uploaded to bandcamp in its final, much-better-sounding mastered version. Grab it for free here. We’ve also declared Guards “Hypeworthy” because of how fucking incredible said mastered EP is.

If Guards aren’t one of the summer’s biggest new bands by the end of August it’ll be one of indie’s worst travesties of wayward inevitability since Buzz Media cannibalized Idolator. As I see it, some things are bound to inequitable failures of circumstance, the exact polar opposite of buzzbands that blow up for no apparent or just reason…
[MP3] GuardsResolution Of One

Guards seem to have everything it takes to blow up these days — quirky 60s pop riffs, laid back lo-fi guitar fuzz, playfully simplistic lyrics, syrupy Kinks-esque melodies — paired with something that comes much closer to seeming authentic than a few other recent lo-fi-60s-pop-bannddss I can think of… and if all it comes down to is downplaying or even hiding your influences, well, they picked the right road to traverse.

This is unrelated, well, not entirely, but that picture was used in the New Yorkers last fiction issue. Is that from something?

the pic we used was used by the band as the artwork for one of the tracks.

loving the album art for the ep – each mp3 with a different image embedded – very cool – nice reinvention of the album art concept.
