Without self-fellating the merits of our own blogging establishment, we firmly believe your summer won’t be complete without a few listens of our own summer soundtrack. Unless you have the shittiest summer ever (your dog dies, you get dumped, you lose your job, your car blows up, and you’re sunburned for about 80 of the 90+ summer days), most of the emotions you experience during these glorious three months have one thing in common: elation. Newcomers from Seattle whose debut album Surf Noir is a highly recommended free release (grab it here).

Another recent Hypeworthy act, this time coming out of Jacksonville, FL. Dude’s got three brilliant MP3s up for grabs at his bandcamp page.

[MP3] 04. The Ruby Suns – Dusty Fruit

The cream of the crop on Ruby Suns’ latest album, Fight Softly, and a rare sonic mindfuck in a year without Animal Collective.

[MP3] 05. Wise Blood – STRT SRNS

Yet another bandcamper with a free EP… the result of a hypothetical meeting of the minds between Panda Bear, Girl Talk, and Jack White. Need I say more?

[MP3] 06. Family Trees – Dream Talkin

A dusty little folk-pop gem from this breakout Brooklyn trio. Very “Beach Boys”, very awesome.

[MP3] 07. ETHEREA – Sextape

“Sextape” comes from one of the best free releases of the year, which includes two of the best remixes of the year. You owe it to yourself to get on this ASAP.

[MP3] 08. Delorean – Real Love

Highly lauded Spaniards who produced one of the best albums of the year, Subiza. Great live show too, wickedly recommended.

[MP3] 09. Brothertiger – Summer House

Promising chillwave dude, bound to be known as BroTiger eventually. One of the songs of the year.

[MP3] 10. Future Islands – Beach Foam

The song that got us addicted to Future Islands, from their 2008 album Waves Like Home. Check out brand new LP In Evening Air, out now on Thrill Jockey.

[MP3] 11. Candy Claws – Sunbeam Show

Another Hypeworthy act that’s finally getting some long-overdue exposure. They’ve got this exp. dream-pop + Brian Wilson thing going on, definitely one to keep your eyes on.

[MP3] 12. COOLRUNNINGS – When I Got High With You

As I’ve said before: song of the summer contender. Like Elvis Costello flavored with a bit of drone-pop.

[MP3] 13. Wild Nothing – Chinatown

You should all know this track by now, perhaps the best offering on their debut Gemini. Summer staple for sure.

[MP3] 14. The Shaky Hands – Summer’s Life

No summer mix is complete without this track. Back when “summer” was defined more by folky indie pop than glo-fi. Such a great song from an underrated band.

[MP3] 15. Blackbird Blackbird – Float On (Modest Mouse Cover)

Couldn’t think of a better way to end this mix other than this excellent cover from one of the summer’s best bands. Grab their debut LP here.
