Our normal posting routine has been out of sorts lately, with some pesky real life things getting in the way of our typically trustworthy internet connections and penchant for content creation. I could go into great (exciting) detail on what exactly is going down behind the IGIF wizard’s curtain, yet good things come to those who wait and it’s been almost five years in the making! So what’s another month?

Getting back to the music at hand, an email appeared in the ole’ inbox last week from Ezra Furman & The Harpoons that backhanded me into a Delorean on cruise control to 2007. It was back then Connor posted the inaugural installment of our mpFree series, featuring none other than Ezra Furman’s Banging On The Door LP. It’s been awhile since then, well only three years but band years are similar to dogs years (dissertation pending), so I’m getting caught up on some singles I’ve missed out on since our mpFree encounter:

“Take Off Your Sunglasses” is a fine blend of pop and folk, engendering vocal influences that sound like a cross between a juvenile Destroyer and jovial Warren Zevon. The quartet just finished recording their third LP this week and are embarking on a tour California’s Delta Spirit.
