[MP3] Fang Island: "Daisy" & "Life Coach"

I’ve been looking for something new to become completely, utterly, intoxicatedly obsessed with this month and I’ve found it in about thirty-two different shades of awesome with Fang Island‘s self-titled sophomore LP. I’ve done a phenomenal job losing every ounce of my former musical tastes (punk, hardcore, grindcore, ska) over the last five years but there’s something about Fang Island that unanimously bridges the gap between my past and my present. It combines pop-punk’s uplifting energy and grindcore’s chaotic swells with the progressive noodling of math rock and anthemic chants of Animal Collective. I’ve never really heard anything like Fang Island before… needless to say it’s absurdly exciting.

Is it completely fair to say that a RISD band is a Providence band? I love Providence, but I think RISD sorta transcends the city itself the same way the legacy of Ray Bans transcends whoever happens to be wearing a pair. Anyway, it’s great to see a band from my hometown getting some well-deserved recognition.
