With a name like “Experimental Dental School” you’ve probably got a pretty decent idea of what these guys sound like without even listening. But once you do, you’ll realize your idea was just a half-cocked fraction of a realization and that XDS has spent the last five or so minutes blowing your brains across your apartment. With the jagged, amalgamous avantgarde flutters of Women and the songwriting strength and instrumentality of Wolf Parade, XDS are merchants of solid art rock. You’ll spend so much time trying to dismember and reassemble each twisted note and sound that you’ll forget all this delicious mayhem is coming from just two people.

Did I mention that they’re giving away this album for free? Yeah, now’s about time to get your download on.

anthony April 20, 2009 at 6:46 pm: gotta be honest, guys, although you’ve been a never-ending source of great new music for me, sometimes i feel like too many of the bands posted follow in that dull, undistinguished, fractured indie rock vein – but this band has a real edge to them, a real feeling of danger, that sets them apart. looking forward to checking out the full album. thanks for the heads up.

Hey Connor (& Everyone),

Thanks for your post … .. if XDS want to give their album away for free, then that's great and, in fact, we applaud them for interacting with their fans (old and new) in this creative way … .. it's their music and, therefore, their decision … .. and that's really at the core of this hot topic … .. we should all be able to respect an artist's decision about their own music, whether we agree with it or not and whether they decide to give-it-away (or not).

Anyway, don't want to get into a speech here, so just stopping-by to add our Dime's worth !!

connor April 22, 2009 at 2:46 pm: Web Sheriff, you make a very good point. It’s always good to respect the wishes of the artist, whatever they may be. And hopefully as artists begin to understand the impact of the blogosphere and new media on their successes, they’ll be more lenient and more forgiving (or perhaps more gracious) when their music is promoted through outlets like this one.

That being said, there are many examples where it is not the artists’ wishes we’re talking about, it’s the labels’. and that opens up a whole other can of worms.
