Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are on Jimmy Fallon tonight. About a month ago that sentence would have sounded incredibly vulgar and humiliating… wait actually it still does. Zing!

They announced via their website last night that they would be playing a new song, “Statues,” and subsequently making a demo of that song available as a free MP3. Well damned if I didn’t find that MP3 available, pre-Fallon. On two plus sides, we get to listen to the new song without sitting through Fallon’s train wreck.

0:03 – Is this band still relevant? Hmmm…
0:21 – Doing nothing for me yet.
0:32 – Break it down, count it out. Waiting…
0:54 – A bit more of the same, with a bit more melody.
1:27 – The chorus kicks in, revives the song a bit.
1:53 – I always liked the bassist. Nice riff.
2:23 – Bridge has a hell of a lot of Spin Doctors’ “Two Princes” …
2:45 – Now I’m getting a distinct “Sweet Home Alabama” vibe. Way too much.
3:16 – Chorus is back, sort of, with the Two Princes vibe.
3:44 – To answer the first question, we apparently have to re-define who the hell CYHSY is. Because they certainly aren’t the same band that shipped 50,000 copies of their debut from their BKYN apartment. And the certainly aren’t the band that brought us “Satan Said Dance.”

I feel like I’ve lost a pet. Maybe I shouldn’t be so hasty with my feelings of nostalgia?
