Question: Do you know what a didgeridoo is?
Answer: The most bad ass instrument on the planet.
Now, you may be familiar with a didgeridoo from the opening credits of Survivor: Australian Outback. You know, that noise. Anyways, the sound of the didgeridoo, by itself, is sensational but having an artist that can skillfully play the Australian instrument, sing, and play 4 other instruments simultaneously sounds flat out unbelievable.
Xavier Rudd, who not only has a cool name, but has an ability to make music like nothing you’ll ever hear. This is another artist that I was able to see perform at Bonnaroo (imagine that)…and a performance it was. Rudd puts a whole new meaning to the title of solo act, playing every instrument by himself with no aid from anyone else. It’s quite a spectacle, let me tell you. Sure, it looks cool but the best part is watching someone jam out on a didgeridoo. Rudd was the man to jam with at Bonnaroo, didgeridoo jamming with such artists as Jack Johnson, Keller Williams, and The Allman Brothers. Try to imagine that, if you can.
His full length debut album, Solace, came out last year and I’d say it’s about time for him to personally add to his discography. In fact his sophomore album, Food In The Belly, has been recorded and is only circulating Down Under and has yet to been released in the States. You can buy an import for a hefty price. Check out his new site for Aussie tour dates and news.
