This is another song I got randomly in the mail, but one that I though deserved a little more attention. I’ve been listening to it pretty non-stop all day. I know Walter Meego has got a few casual mentions around a few blogs here and there, so I thought I’d give the ol’ iGIF stamp of approval in case you needed more optimistic positivity:
[MP3] Walter Meego – Through A Keyhole (highly recommended)
I love the way this song starts out. It’s slow, eerie, haunting even…however, even when the beat changes, Meego’s voice and the tune he carries echo the same sense of discomfort and disillusion. The way the tune gets higher then lower then higher, for example recalls a childish “na-na-na-na-naaa-naa” taunting which, combined with the “looking through a keyhole” imagery, makes for a very chilling dance song while still making you want to hit the club. It’s amazing, really, how bipolar such a song can make one feel.
Heypenny is another band that an anonymous iGIF reader turned me on to through email. I wish I had more to show you by them…they only have one full length song for download…but I liked it so much that I decided to buy the album. What do you guys think?
[MP3] Heypenny – Dooley (highly recommended)
I think it’s safe to assume The Beatles‘ influence in this song. Is that not Ringo on drums? Nor Paul on piano, nor John on the mic? Did George Martin not arrange this masterpiece? Everything about this song makes me yearn to walk in a park with Eleanor Rigby or hop on Paul’s Keseyian-esq Magical Mystery Tour bus. Listen to this and ‘Your Mother Should Know’ back to back…you’ll see what I’m talking about.
