When we first posted a little disclaimer on the bottom of the sidebar, we were enthusiastic about getting emails from all sorts of bands, fans, merch guys, press people etc about new and exciting bands…not just because we love the attention, but because we thought it might make things a little easier when it comes to finding bands to post on. The problem, we soon came to find out, was the sheer volume of submissions we’ve been getting. Our gmail box is backlogged all the way to December with too many mp3s and bands to count. Unfortunately we can’t possibly give them all the amount of attention we normally give (and maybe the amount they deserve)…but we don’t want them to go overlooked any further. So we’re starting a little series…a little grab bag of mp3s from the various emails we get, at least until the inbox tidies up:
[MP3] Loquat – Swingset Chain
You know those songs that strongly conjure up some obscure aesthetic if you close your eyes while you’re listening? For me, this is one of those…the lyrics paint a good scene.
[MP3] Todd Finkel – Rise
This one’s a DIY from a school teacher in Chicago. While perhaps there’s a little too much going on in the song, the piano and drumming stand out.
[MP3] Count Robocula – Fire Worshipers
A dancey, synthy, housey amalgam of all sorts of shit, to a loosely resembled tune of something like “Monster Mash” – It’s pretty fun if you’re into that kind of thing.
[MP3] The Meteah Strike – Prototype
For fans of Death Cab and the like. Aside from the annoying band name (meteor? media?), I like what a hear. It’s very relaxing.
[MP3] Layabout – Barbara
The novelty of this song is what does it for me. Once you get past worrying about who might catch you listening to this, it’s pretty enjoyable…sounds too much like that James Taylor song about ducks in a row for its own good, but it’s worth a listen nonetheless.
[MP3] Kid Theodore – I Am A Moth
A fairly simple acoustic love song with a catchy tune. Perfect for Valentine’s Day and whatnot. For fans of John Mayer and the like.
That’s all for today! Happy Hallmark-Owns-Us-All Day!
