Artist at a Glance: Chad VanGaalen

Chad VanGaalen is yet further proof that Canadian artists are taking our music scene by storm, and if they all sound as good as VanGaalen then I hope the sabotaging continues.

Artist at a Glance: Chad VanGaalen

For close to an entire decade, Chad VanGaalen had been producing his own work in his bedroom, playing all of the instruments (see above picture), and recording hundreds of songs. Flemish Eye records finally had the common sense to pick up VanGaalen and release his debut album Infiniheart. I can easily say that this album would probably make any Top 25 list of the year, given I had to make one. You could compare his sound to a distant Modest Mouse or The Flaming Lips, but his sound is unparalleled.

I can’t imagine VanGaalen remaining in obscurity much longer, much like the artist posted last week Eagle*Seagull, they’re both just too talented. I imagine more people will grow accustomed to the likes of VanGaalen since he is currently touring with another breakout band this year, Wolf Parade.

oh you know, here and there and everywhere….actually I’m stuck at grannie’s house in Storrs, CT…so I’m able every once and a while to drive over to UCONN to pick up their wireless signal…but they don’t allow outside server connections…ie AIM’s server or Wheaton’s fileshare server…so no posts from me until tomorrow at the earliest! you seem to be holding up shop real well though!
